Keeping Our Community Comfortable and Safe with the “Neighborhood Saving Neighbors” Carbon Monoxide Detector Drive

Residents of the St. Cloud area count on us to keep them warm and cozy during the frigid Minnesota winters, and we take that responsibility very seriously. But the team here at Neighborhood Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical cares about more than just your comfort — we also want to keep you safe!

That’s what our “Neighborhood Saving Neighbors” collection drive is all about.

For the fifth year in a row, we’re celebrating the holidays by collecting carbon monoxide detectors to donate to our local food shelves. Our goal is to distribute a total of 2,500 alarms, or 125 alarms to each of 20 different Central Minnesota food shelf facilities, where they can be given out to families in need during the holiday season.

This is not just a way to give back to our community; it’s also a way to raise awareness of carbon monoxide poisoning and promote an often-neglected aspect of home maintenance. Although Minnesota has no building code requiring homes to install carbon monoxide alarms, it’s so important for residents to keep at least one working alarm in their living space.

We’ve outlined some key reasons why carbon monoxide detectors are so crucial to the safety of our neighbors here in Central Minnesota. Check out this infographic, then continue reading.

Installing a carbon monoxide detector is a simple way for homeowners to protect themselves on a day-to-day basis from the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s recommended that homeowners have a carbon monoxide detector for each floor of their home, and with that in mind, we’ve set our collection goals higher this year than for any of our previous “Neighborhood Saving Neighbors” endeavors.

As our own William Sherk explains in this promotional video, we’re already off to a great start!

Highlights of the “Neighborhood Saving Neighbors” thus far include some very generous contributions from local businesses. The Neighborhood family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the following donations:

  • Home Depot Pro has donated 1,000 alarms to the cause;
  • Franklin Advertising has donated time on two different digital billboards to help spread the word;
  • Lennox has donated a furnace, air conditioner, air purifier, and thermostat, and Neighborhood will use all proceeds from the sale of this package, as well as its installation, to buy another round of carbon monoxide alarms. We expect to supply a total of 500 alarms thanks to this donation!

How You Can Help

We’ve set up a GoFundMe page to collect financial donations which we’ll then use for the purchase of carbon monoxide detectors. Please follow the link If you’d like to make a donation to Neighborhood Saving Neighbors. Your contribution just may save a life.

If you’d like to give in another way, please contribute to your local food shelf. There is always a need for more help within our communities.
